PRESS RELEASE: clinical trial 'Post-stroke osteopathy' on bone fractures after stroke

Patients who survive the acute phase of stroke are at a higher risk of bone fractures. VASCage has issued a press release on its new clinical trial 'Post-Stroke Osteopathy'. The objective is to characterize falls and fractures and changes in the bone microstructure after  stroke.

New research results on flies, mice and humans suggests that spermidine-rich diet might protect the ageing brain

Decreased cognitive performance is a hallmark of brain ageing, but the underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic avenues remain poorly understood. Now, new research results with VASCage contribution raise the intriguing possibility that dietary spermidine may be protective against cognitive decline in humans. The exciting new findings are published in the current issue of the journal Cell Reports.

Cardiovascular risk factor overweight: New publications shed light on height and weight trajectories from infancy to young adulthood

A major risk factor for cardiovascular disease in young adults is overweight or obesity in adolescence. VASCage project leaders Prof. Dr. Ursula Kiechl-Kohlendorfer (Director of the Department of Paediatrics II, Division of Neonatology, Medical University of Innsbruck MUI), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Michael Knoflach (Dept. of Neurology, MUI) and her co-workers have published results that are crucial for the implementation of adequate prevention measures.

Age-dependent arterial stiffening differs in sexes: Women highly at risk after menopause

New publication of VASCage researchers and VASCage partners in the high-ranking Journal of the American College of Cardiology shows that the ageing of arteries progresses differently in Chinese men and women over lifetime. The findings are highly relevant for drug targeting. The publication is the result of the very fruitful cooperation between VASCage, Medical University Innsbruck, King’s College London, Zhejiang University and the Third Xiangya Hospital of Changsha, the largest medical institution in central China.

Prevention of vascular ageing and stroke by early health intervention is an important research goal of VASCage. The international meeting „Addressing today’s Global Health Paradox“ in Innsbruck, initiated by Dr. Katharina Wirnitzer, University College of Teacher Education Tyrol, and Prof. Madan Thangavelu, Cambridge, UK, was a great opportunity for exchange, especially on the topics of nutrition, physical activity and targeted excercise.
