It’s brain awareness week, the global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science! VASCage runs a series of interviews with some of our researchers.
-WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT THE BRAIN?
Everything a person feels or does is processed through the central nervous system. Each part of the brain holds specific functions and deficits in the brain functions can mostly be localized through physical examination alone.
-HOW DOES YOUR RESEARCH CONTRIBUTE TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE BRAIN?
In stroke research we observe how therapy and lifestyle can contribute to the regeneration of the brain and how damage to the brain can be compensated. We also try to reveal risk factors for ischemic strokes to improve preventive strategies.
-WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE FOR PEOPLE WITH YOUR RESEARCH?
By improving patient care we want to support people who suffered a stroke to reduce their risk for recurrent vascular events and deal with complications after stroke to better reintegrate in life.
